The task: Give a grade for each student: 90+ = A+, 75+ = A, 60+ = B, 40+ = C, below 40 = F.

1 Watch how it is done

  1. Step 1: Write the nested IF

    =IF(B4>=90,"A+",IF(B4>=75,"A",IF(B4>=60,"B",IF(B4>=40,"C","F"))))

    • Click C4.
    • Type =IF(B4>=90,"A+",IF(B4>=75,"A",IF(B4>=60,"B",IF(B4>=40,"C","F")))) and press Enter.
    • Check the brackets: one IF inside the next, four closing brackets at the end.
    • Drag the fill handle down.
