Grades with VLOOKUP: Excel Lab

Lab 08 · IntermediateVLOOKUP (approximate match)$ absolute reference

The task: Same grades, but read from a grade table with VLOOKUP. Change the table later and every grade updates.

1 Watch how it is done

  1. Step 1: Look up the grade

    =VLOOKUP(B4,$E$4:$F$8,2,TRUE)

    • Click C4.
    • Type =VLOOKUP(B4,$E$4:$F$8,2,TRUE) and press Enter.
    • TRUE means 'closest lower value', so 67 finds the 60 row → B.
    • The $ signs keep the table fixed when you copy down.
    • Drag the fill handle down.
