SUM in Excel: add up a column in 5 seconds
The fastest way to add a column of numbers is =SUM(range).
The formula
=SUM(B2:B20)
Click the cell under your numbers, type the formula, press Enter.
Even faster
Click the cell under the numbers and press Alt + =. Excel writes the SUM formula for you.
Common mistake
If the answer is 0, your numbers are probably stored as text. Select them, press Ctrl+1, set the format to Number, then re-enter one value.
