Excel to Image: save a range or chart as PNG or JPG

An image cannot be edited by the recipient and looks the same everywhere. Three ways, by what you are exporting.

A chart → PNG file

1. Right-click the chart › Save as Picture.
2. Choose PNG, name it, Save.

Sharp at any size.

A range of cells → picture in the clipboard

1. Select the cells. Home › Copy ▾ › Copy as Picture.
2. Choose As shown on screen and Picture. OK.
3. Paste (Ctrl + V) into Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, WhatsApp — anything.

To make it a file: paste into Paint (Win + R, mspaint) and save as PNG.

A range → picture inside Excel (that updates)

Copy the cells › Home › Paste ▾ › Linked Picture. The image follows the cells when they change — handy on a dashboard sheet.

Higher resolution

Zoom Excel to 200% before Copy as Picture — the image is captured at screen size. Or paste into PowerPoint, right-click › Save as Picture, which exports at higher DPI.

Remove gridlines first

View › untick Gridlines so the picture has a clean white background.

Check it worked

Open the PNG — text is crisp, no cut-off edges.

Whole sheet as an image

Print to PDF (Ctrl + P › Microsoft Print to PDF), then convert the PDF page to PNG with any converter. Or paste the range into PowerPoint on a large slide and Save as Picture.
