How to Copy a Sheet in Excel (same file or another workbook)

A copied sheet keeps everything: values, formulas, formatting, column widths and print settings.

Fastest way: Ctrl + drag

  1. Hold Ctrl.
  2. Click the sheet tab and drag it left or right.
  3. Let go of the mouse, then Ctrl. A copy called Sales (2) appears.

With the menu

  1. Right-click the sheet tab › Move or Copy.
  2. Pick where it should go under Before sheet.
  3. Tick Create a copy. Click OK.

Forget the tick box and Excel moves the sheet instead of copying it.

Copy to another workbook

  1. Open both files.
  2. Right-click the tab › Move or Copy.
  3. In To book, choose the other file (or (new book)).
  4. Tick Create a copy › OK.

Copy several sheets at once

Ctrl+click each tab to select them, then Ctrl+drag or use Move or Copy. Click any single tab afterwards to ungroup, or your next edit lands on every selected sheet.

Formulas that point to other sheets

When you copy into another workbook, formulas that refer to sheets left behind become links to the old file. Use Data › Edit Links › Break Link if you only want the values.

Next: rename the copy · delete a sheet
