How to Delete a Sheet in Excel (and get it back)

Deleting a sheet cannot be undone with Ctrl+Z. Save first if you’re not sure.

Delete one sheet

  1. Right-click the sheet tab.
  2. Click Delete.
  3. If the sheet has data, Excel asks you to confirm. Click Delete.

From the ribbon

Home › Cells › Delete › Delete Sheet. Same result.

Keyboard

Alt, H, D, S — press them one after another.

Delete several sheets

Ctrl+click each tab (or click the first and Shift+click the last), then right-click › Delete. A workbook must keep at least one visible sheet.

Deleted the wrong one?

  • Not saved yet: close the file and choose Don’t Save, then reopen it. The sheet is back as it was at the last save.
  • Already saved, on OneDrive/SharePoint: File › Info › Version History and open an older version.

Formulas that used the deleted sheet

They turn into #REF!. See formula errors to fix them.

Rather keep it out of sight? Hide the sheet instead.
